Abstract :
Introduction: This retrospective study investigates the clinical outcomes of Vertebroplasty in multiple myeloma patients. By assessing the efficacy of this intervention in managing vertebral involvement and associated complications, we aim to contribute valuable insights to the treatment strategies for individuals with multiple myeloma-related vertebral fractures.
Aims/objectives: To compare clinical improvement in patient suffering from Multiple Myeloma after undergoing Vertebroplasty with the Pre procedure clinical status.
Material/methods: 19 patients who had undergone Vertebroplasty for treatment of back pain due to multiple myeloma at our institution from January to August 2023 were included in the study.
Results: There was a mean reduction in pain score from Mean of 6.6 to 2.9 out of 10 after Vertebroplasty. The most frequent pain score pre-procedure was 6 (n =13), and it dropped to 3 most commonly following the procedure. The mean Quality of life score was 68 in pre-operative stage while it increased to 80 post interventional procedure. Hence clinical outcome improved significantly post Vertebroplasty.
Conclusions: Vertebroplasty offers rapid treatment of pain in myeloma patients. In addition, correlation analysis suggests significant improvement in pain scale. Quality of life also showed improvement after undergoing Vertebroplasty. Altogether, vertebroplasty is an effective treatment that confers pain relief, enhanced mobility, ADL and Quality of life.
